Education and Influences
Sherri gratuated from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Design. She spent many years working as a graphic designer before embarking on a second career in fine art.
Until 2006, Sherri worked primarily in pencil and charcoal with a photo-realistic style. She created her first "abstract landscape" paintings after viewing Mark Rothko's Abstract Expressionist paintings in a museum. In 2008 she started painting with local plein-air painters and discovered a great passion for painting outdoors. It was through her fellow painters and mentors that she discovered that her natural style was similar to the early tonalist painters. She later learned more about tonalism by studying the works of George Inness, JH Twachman, James Whistler and Russell Chatham.
Sherri continues her education by attending workshops in California, Montana, Texas and Arizona. Sherri has studied with Scott Christensen, Robert Moore, Matt Smith, Elizabeth Tolley, and Nancy Bush.
Charity Donations
Sherri believes in giving back to the community. Since 2005, she has donated original drawings and paintings to local auctions. She has also participated in "Quick Draws," events at which patrons can watch Sherri begin and complete a painting, then bid on the finished piece at a benefit auction later that evening. She has donated to the following charitable organizations:
Valentine for AIDS, Boise, Idaho; St. Luke's Medical Center and Mercy Medical Center, Nampa, Idaho; benefiting breast cancer awareness; We Art Women, Boise, Idaho; benefiting the Women's and Children's Crisis Center in Boise, Idaho; Camp Rainbow Gold, Boise, Idaho; benefiting local children with cancer; Hospice of Napa Valley, Napa, California; Visual Aid, San Francisco, California; benefiting young artists with disabilities
